Astronomers saythis viewof the Andromeda Galaxy is probably similar to what the Milky mode Galaxy would look like from outside .
Like the Milky Way , Andromeda is a spiral galaxy , and it ’s our nearest astronomical neighbor in the cleverly - named Local Group . Of course , “ close ” in astronomical terms means about 2.5 million light geezerhood . But someday , Andromeda will be much closer ; astrophysicist say it will collide with the Milky Way in a few billion years . Eventually , the two galaxy will unite into one enceinte elliptical galaxy .
This image is actually a digital mosaic of 20 frames , taken witha 12.5 in telescope . The individual stars you see are in reality stars in the Milky Way , indicate up in the foreground of the figure .

If youlook next to the constellation Pegasus , you’re able to see the Andromeda Galaxy with the naked center ; it ’ll depend like a round , bright fuzz . you’re able to get a respectable view with a small scope , of course .
