Jason Segel — champion of sitcoms , maker of universal gas constant - rate comedies , and friend to Muppets — has separate out yet again . Segel and his co - author Kirsten Miller have announced that subsequently this year they ’ll be publish a YA novel called Otherworld , the first in a proposed YA scifi trilogy about an all encompassing futurist video game .
“ When I was a adolescent , I was one of the favorable few who got to experience a biz very much like Otherworld before it was close down , ” Segel distinguish Entertainment Weekly . “ When I get a line rumbling it was being reimagined for VR , I get it on it was something Kirsten and I had to publish about . Part mythic escapade , part sci - fi lovemaking story , totally cautionary tale — we wanted to pass the young propagation of potential thespian before this ‘ secret plan ’ becomes a reality . ”
Book fans probably know ( but this movie devotee did n’t ) that this is n’t Segel ’s first book . He and Miller already write a series of children ’s books called Nightmares ! , which end up on the New York Times Best Sellers list . Otherworld is their first maraud into an older demographic , however .
The account book ’s premise sound fairly familiar . It ’s about a “ game ” called Otherworld that ’s sort of like The Sims but in total virtual realism where people can choose to be whomever or whatever they like . ( It also sounds like the OASIS in Ready Player One or any other totally immersive practical world from popular civilization . ) However , as the secret plan goes on and gets more popular , player start to see mayhap it ’s not as innocent as they thought .
And while Segel is fairly new to the publication secret plan , he ’s not new to writing . He wrote Forgetting Sarah Marshall , The Muppets and a few other films he starred in as well . No word if there are plan for Otherworld to make that bounce too .
Otherworld number out November 7 . And you’re able to currently see Segel in apretty awe-inspiring scifi moviecalled The Discovery on Netflix , which is his most late work .
