More people have seen footage from next yr ’s Star Trek reboot , this time in Rome , as director JJ Abrams continue a European turn of the footageunveiled in London originally this week . While we ’re happy that Abrams is get out and about after an extended stay in the editing bay cook the movie , we ’re wondering when American audiences will get to see what lies in storehouse for us next May . But at least he ’s sharing what we wo n’t be understand this time around – Namely , Klingons . Abrams separate Empire Magazine that there ’s a ground that he go for the Romulans as the motion picture ’s big bad extraterrestrial :
The Romulans were … what was interesting to me was that it was n’t the Klingons . That ’s what you await and it was fun to practice the Romulans the way we did . Part of the fact is that they had n’t pick up them for so many years , so that it immediately reveal , for anyone who knows , the rules of Trek to start the movie and have Romulans cut across paths with Starfleet . It jumps in relegate the rules , which I think is kind of fun . That ’s not to say it ’s not excuse and it ’s not uniform with canon , given our story … but it felt like we had seen so many iteration of Klingons done that this felt like a manner to do something in the intimate vernacular but not so familiar that it felt overdone .
Which is n’t to say that we ’ll be entirely innocent of Klingons in next twelvemonth ’s much - anticipated reboot , he went on to explain . It ’s just that we may have to expect for the DVD to see more of them :
You will see Klingon Warbirds in the film . Maybe not in the agency you anticipate , but you will see them … There was a big Klingon subplot in this and we actually finish up having to draw it out because it jumble the story in a direction that I thought was very cool but unneeded . So we have these beautiful designs that we ’re going to have to wait and do elsewhere I guess .
