Facebook on Friday annunciate the removal of 82 pages , radical , and account linked to Iran , a majority of which had falsify themselves as being U.S. citizens and posted on “ politically charged subject , ” including immigration and wash relations , as relevant to the United States .
In ablog post , the fellowship ’s headspring of cybersecurity policy , Nathaniel Gleicher , pronounce the accounts were first notice one workweek ago . U.S. authorization , admit members of Congress , were notified . A few of the explanation also mimicked U.K. citizens , Gleicher say .

One of the story , “ inflame Up America , ” appears to have promoted memes and other nontextual matter critical of President Donald Trump , let in one labeling him “ The Worst , Most Hated President in American History . ” Others posted by an account called “ No racism no war ” had posted images of Colin Kaepernick and a cartoon criticizing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh . Screenshots provide by Facebook did not include appointment or show how many times the ikon were liked or shared .

Gleicher credited Facebook ’s “ elections warfare elbow room ” with having detected what the company call “ coordinated inauthentic behavior . ”
“ These groups helped quickly identify , investigate and judge the problem , and then take activeness to stop it , ” he articulate . “ They will continue their investigations , including any additional information we get from natural law enforcement , other engineering caller , or other expert . ”
In August , Facebook similarly removed 100 of accounts from both Facebook and Instagram , some of which date as far back as 2011 . In this case , Facebook ’s investigation was prompted by a tip from the security firm FireEye , which found connexion to Persian state media .

Although Facebook would not say that any of these newfangled accounts it delete are tied to the Iran regime , there was “ some convergence ” between them and the pages removed in August , Gleicher said .
