Several months back , a referee named Joseph suggested George Seurat ’s " A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte " for , ably enough , a Sunday afternoon . Since ' Feel Art Again ' runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays , though , I calculate today was as good a time as any . And , with the snowy forecast for tomorrow ( at least here in PA ) , a cheery weather painting is just what we need . So , I ’m proud to present " Un dimanche après - midi à   l’ÃŽle de la Grande Jatte " by Georges - Pierre Seurat .

. George Seurat devoted two days to " A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte , " spending afternoons in the park sketching figures . He completed roughly 60 subject field for the 2x3 meter house painting , and even reworked the original . He was most focussed on coloring and light . regrettably , the pigment zinc yellow , which was Modern at the time , has darkened to brown over the years , changing the show of the lawn and other role of the painting .

. Seurat ’s pursuit in the sketch and emotion of color might perhaps be traced back to his puerility plate . With his parent and two siblings , he lived at 100 Boulevard Magenta .

. Near the closing of his life , Seurat secretly cohabit with Madeleine Knobloch , a young role model . In February 1890 , she give birth to their first Word . Seurat died of unsure causes in March 1891 , shortly before the birth of his 2nd son , who died before long after birth . Supposedly , Seurat had only introduced Knobloch and his Logos to his parent two days before his death .

. After his death , the contents of Seurat ’s studio apartment were classified at his parent ' postulation . They offered the contents to the Louvre , but were decline ; the contents were then divided amongst Knobloch and some of Seurat ’s followers .

. " A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte " is n’t just Seurat ’s most famed house painting , it is also one of the most illustrious and oft reproduce paintings in the man . Like Leonardo da Vinci ’s " Mona Lisa , " Salvador Dali ’s " The Persistence of Memory , " and Edvard Munch ’s " The Scream , " Seurat ’s house painting is often credit in pop acculturation . Stephen Sondheim wrote aTony award - winning musicalabout it ; the Looney Tunes , the Simpsons , and Sesame Street parodied it ; it appeared in " Barbarella " ( 1968 ) and " Ferris Bueller ’s Day Off " ( 1986 ) ; and Nancy Cameron posed in front of a copy of it for the January 1976 issue of Playboy .
