In Seventh Son , Jeff Bridges is a witch - hunter who takes on an learner to fight an evil witch ( Julianne Moore ) . But we did n’t understand is this moving picture is chock full of Ray Harryhausen - panache lusus naturae , until we catch a net ton of footage here at San Diego Comic - Con . Spoilers ahead …
We saw a Brobdingnagian “ sizzle reel ” from Seventh Son , which comes out in January , just now . And we were not prepared for the Brobdingnagian amount of monsters we saw rampaging across our screens . There are dragons . There is a four - armed Kali - esque gloomy fibre . There is a ginormous boggart , sort of like a troll who hold up in the ground , who explode out of the ground and chases our zep .
The basic gist of this sizzle reel was to hammer home a few major points :
1 ) Jeff Bridges is an ultimate badass . We see him doing tons of expectant poppycock , include catching a crisscross that a possessed char has hurled across the room telekinetically — with one helping hand . He drive the daemon out of the woman . He does lots of astonishing steel - scrap . He entangle with witches and fiend and dragons . And at one point , we see a dragon howl at him so firmly it blows his hair back — and he just stands his ground , with a dispirited expression on his face . But when he see a Boggart , he says there ’s nothing to do but just turn tail . ( And they extend into a cave which pass to a huge cliff , which leads to a falls . bridge says Boggarts hate water , but then the Boggart jumps off the drop into the water system , turtle the raft they ’ve gotten on . Then Ben Barnes meander up riding on the Boggart ’s back over the fall . Seriously nerveless episode . )
2 ) There ’s a terrible scourge coming . We see an ancient city in flames . We see strange costumes like knightly gas masks , and dreadful animate being romaing the street . We hear a voiceover say the Devil is upon us , and there will be slaughter . And so on and so forth . The witches are gather their king , the monsters are heighten , etc .
3 ) Jon Snow is goner . Kit Harington is Bridges ’ original apprentice — and we see him fighting and being locked in a cage and being wailed on , and we jolly much see him getting killed , which credibly happens middling early in the moving-picture show . Later , Bridges takes his fresh prentice ( Ben Barnes ) to see his family — all of his apprentice , who have all died . He shows Barnes all the gravestones . In fact , there were supposed to be a thousand defenders against evil , and they ’re all idle .
4 ) The new apprentice is struggling We see a training collage and stuff , and bridge entangle at his learner to “ show me who you are . ” Bridges chews the scene with full glee as he tries to whip this youngster into form and turn him into a artillery against the evil onslaught .
5 ) The witches are aphrodisiac . Julianne Moore is incredibly seductive as the loss leader of the evil Wiccan , and we see her using her power to heal one of the other witches of some terrible blight . And a younger beldame make the heck out of Ben Barnes , telling him not all hag are malign and in fact Jeff Bridges ’ character was in making love with a witch in the past tense and we all have secrets . She tries to convert Ben Barnes to link the witches ’ side .
And Ben Barnes gave us a quickie abstract of the photographic film :
I play a character called Tom Ward who is a young pig farmer in the heart of nowhere , in our mysterious land . And he knows that he ’s meant for something more in this world , but he does n’t know what that is , but he just feel alienated and different . And Jeff ’s lineament , Master Gregory , who is this wonderful grumbling fighter of the blue side , turns up one day at my house … I get sell to him for a small bagful of amber and I consider it ’s very exciting until I understand he ’s basically going to treat me like a servant , ab initio anyway . This bond chassis between the two of them over time . And they have to band together to oppose he forces of evil which are combining as the blood blood-red moon approaches .
