Ford recently overhauled their car dashboards to make railcar interface less sucky and more like cell . They focused on better useableness and team up up with design house Ideo to make a logical UI for all their cars .
Ford sought advice from Ideo , Creator of Apple ’s original mouse , to come up with a coherent desoxyribonucleic acid that would become the standard layout on all their vehicles . or else of make up their own method to do things , they chose more familiar input gadget exchangeable to iPods and TV remote controls . Here are some of their changes :
One is the five - point controller – four directive pointer with a fundamental clitoris – on the steering cycle . Used on many electronic gismo , it had solution in the points of the reach . Five - gunpoint restrainer on the steering wheel are easily operated with the quarter round , which lets drivers keep their eye on the route .

A fundamental eight - column inch blind is organized around four corners and four colors : chicken - orange for the speech sound , light-green for navigation , blue for climate controller and red for amusement . There are , mercifully , large knobs for bulk and fan stop number .
you could see how much cellphone UI influenced Ford and Ideo in the paradigm ( the blank and blue fascia ) and how much of that eventually trickle into the production model ( the black dashboard ) . I think the changes that Ford made are absolutely welcome as machine dashboards have been terrible from a technical standpoint for a very farseeing clock time . [ NY Times ]
