Earlier today rumors started floating around that Google is somehow now block Windows Phone users from get at Google Maps through net Explorer . Well , it turns out that that was totally false and untrue . As it turns out , the wandering web web browser version of Google Maps was built for Webkit - found web browser , and the mobile interlingual rendition of Internet Explorer is not based on Webkit . So that ’s why it does n’t work . Now go on about your business .
Update : Google confirm it with us . A Google Spokesperson said :
The mobile web version of Google Maps is optimise for WebKit browsers such as Chrome and Safari . However , since Internet Explorer is not a WebKit web internet browser , Windows Phone devices are not able to access Google Maps for the mobile World Wide Web .
Update 2 : A Microsoft interpreter has responded to Google saying that :
“ Internet Explorer in Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 use of goods and services the same rendering railway locomotive . ”
It appears thathttp://maps.google.comworked amercement on Windows Phone until Google started blocking it . In fact it is still working on the Lumia 920 if I go tohttp://maps.google.co.ukas it looks like they forgot to airt that one . Are there deviation between how it works on Windows Phone and on webkit base nomadic web browser ? Yeah but to say that “ Since Internet Explorer is not a WebKit browser app , Windows Phone devices are not able to access Google Maps for the peregrine web ” is simply not lawful . cyberspace Explorer on the desktop is not a WebKit web browser app and it work fine with Google map .
It seems as though the rationality that Windows Phone ca n’t access Google Maps is that Google decided ( for reasons they would need to explain ) to start blocking Windows Phone users . It has worked , because the web internet browser on Windows Phone is the same as the web internet browser in Windows 8 .
