I refuse to believe Dario Argento wrote and directed this picture show . I refuse to believe that the theater director of some of the greatest horror films ever — Suspiria , Opera , Phenomena — could ever make a moving-picture show as atrocious as Dracula 3D. So if you ’re a fan of sincerely bad picture , this is run low to be your favourite Argento ever .
Dario Argento ’s Dracula is not a moving-picture show that ’s so bad it becomes massively entertaining , like The Room , or Manos : The Hands of Fate . It ’s more like 90 % of the other moving-picture show Mystery Science Theater 3000 use up on — movies of incompetency on every grade , where you have to wonder how virtually everyone managed to underachieve every single task they had in creating this movie .
That ’s not Dario Argento . Dario Argento has produced some amazing work in hiscareer . So I have to assume the director has had some kind of headway injury that grant him professional amnesia , because Dracula look like the work of a first - time ( and not naturally talented ) music director . scenery are static and shot promontory - on ; there ca n’t be more than a few trailing shots in the whole movie . Performances are derisory to non - real . Scenes let in so much padding and time wasting that the 1:40 picture feels like three . The CG effects are early Doctor Who revival at best , and the practical effects are n’t very estimable either . Things are n’t shown alternatively of recite ; they ’re shown and then told , so everything drags and takes up more time .

And it ’s not scary at all . Between the operation and the effects and the ugly instruction , there ’s no hazard actual care or interest to develop . Thomas Kretschmann ’s Dracula has no personal appeal or threat ( it also does n’t help that his Dracula paid for the townsfolk ’s school to keep the villager quiet , take a crap him the nicest Dracula in moving picture history ) — he look like he should be pose a black turtleneck perspirer in a JC Penney ’s catalogue . In fact , the most unsettling part of the whole picture show is when Dario films his daughter Asia Argento ( playing Lucy ) getting gratuitously bathed by Mina Harker , but it ’s not like he has n’t made his daughter get naked in his movies before .
The fully grown cataclysm is that there ’s no artistry here . In fact , there ’s only one surprisal — spoiler alert if you ’re really front forrad to the only interesting moment in the film — and that ’s what Dracula suddenly show up as a giant praying mantis . He ’s CG , he expect terrible , and the scene where he kills Lucy ’s daddy is comic , but it ’s the only thing I did n’t wait in a movie where I project everything else coming a mild off . ( Alas , Drac - mantid only exists for that one brief , splendiferous present moment . ) Even Argento ’s deviations from the original novel are all matter the Dracula moving-picture show have done before .
the pits , even Rutger Hauer , who plays Van Helsing and only shows up in the movie ’s last 40 minutes , ca n’t do much . Admittedly , he distinctly is n’t concerned in trying , either — although even the much somnambulate Hauer outacts the sum totality of the quietus of the casting .

There is nothing good about Dario Argento ’s Dracula 3D , so the only reason you should watch it is if you like bad movies — not fun - spoiled , badly - bad . But even then I ’d highly suggest work at least one or two brother over so you may riff on the pic together . ( And maybe some strong drink . )
