We ask him .

The film Cabin in the Woods just came out about a year ago . Did you worry about set out another movie with the variety of premise that Cabin in the Woods was poking fun at ?

I do n’t think it is [ making fun of these sorts of moving picture ] … I learn Cabin in the Woods while I was still flash the movie . I was so happy that it was just survive to a dissimilar thing , and it was n’t really a horror movie , correct ? It ’s a smart comedy that talks a bunch about revulsion . Right ? It ’s a very saucy comedy . And I ’m happy that we ’re on their itinerary , in a way . I do n’t cerebrate they ’re saying there ’s nothing there for me . I do n’t think they ’re enjoin horror movies are stupid . They ’re state , “ repugnance movies happen because this is go bad on . This is the understanding why all these stories happen . ” I recall that pic was a love alphabetic character to horror flick . So I was never [ worried ] .

On a similar Federal Reserve note , there have been a lot of horror comedy since the original Evil Dead films , including the Scream and Scary Movie dealership . Do you think repulsion - funniness , as a combined writing style , has changed in the last 20 years ?

They ’re like different things I suppose . A good revulsion movie — it does n’t matter how many drollery repulsion moving picture there have been before . Does n’t count how much you think it ’s go to be funny . A good revulsion movie will pall the hell out of you … the minute you sit down and you begin being exposed to that story , it ’s going to freeze your blood . And I think that ’s what a full horror motion-picture show can make . It does n’t matter how many drollery repugnance [ films ] you watch . If you sit down and watch The exorciser , it ’s going to be chilling . I do n’t consider it commute anything . There ’s room for so many things in sprightliness . There ’s room for those movies , and there ’s way for the straightforward repugnance movies . And at the end of the twenty-four hour period , I intend if you create something unexampled and bracing and it ’s disturbing and scarey , does n’t matter how many clowning there have been before , it works .

Do audiences have forgetful attention spans now ? Do you have to move faster , to get the scares or the funny parts ?

Yeah , definitely . moving picture in the seventies and eighties will take more time to set up , and use a little more of a slow tan . But this one is a little morsel of a slow burn . The first one-half of the film is quite a slow burn into horror . It does n’t quite kick in until the heart of the film . But when it goes , it pass . It never stops . We were trying to be very one-time - school in the whole approach , and trying to be as classic as we could .
