Today is a sad day for Star Wars fan , with the end of Marvel ’s splendid Darth Vader comic from Kieron Gillen , Salvador Larrocca , and Edgar Delgado . Vader has given us a tone at the Dark Lord at his lethal and most awful — and it fall to a close giving us more of what made it so great , right down to thesick burns .

The greatest strength of Darth Vader — aside from its incredible , delicious penchant for making its titular character super sassy — has been its invigoration of Vader as a truly direful front in the Star Wars galaxy . Darth Vader is more than a bionic man clad in dark leather ; he ’s a force of nature . Whether that ’s signify him skulking around in the darkness of the Empire to forward his own agenda or whether it ’s him chip at through his opponent as an unstoppable body of perfect , disciplined fury .
Years of Vader ’s presence in popular culture had dulled the fright he was intend to instill — he ’s been endearing lavish toys , cutesy advertising inspiration , hell , he can voice your Sat Nav if you really want him to . As Darth Vader became one of the faces of Star Wars as a global marketing phenom , his timorous front was blunted . He was the unsound guy sure enough , but not all that defective — he could be kind of fun .
Gillen , Larocca , and Delgado ’s workplace care to blend the ok of crease between these two cultural perceptions of Darth Vader — playfulness enough that if he came out with a ballsy quip or a smart put - down , you’d have a chuckle , but otherwise this deadly , unrelenting personnel , choking and slash his way through foeman with Son or with his deadly supremacy of the force . Darth Vader breathed new life into Vader as a character reference , reinvigorating the frightful form of the movies while at the same timekeeping him spectacularly human .
Darth Vader # 25 , out today , is a culmination of the outstanding work this creative team has done with the fictitious character , wrap up its story while also managing to give readers an essential “ greatest hits ” recap of why the serial has been so brilliant . In fact , its overarching plot — the frustration of sinister Doctor Cylo , who ’s expend most of the seriescreating Modern servantsof the Emperor in a bid to unseat Vader from his spot as veracious - hand man to Palpatine — is cover almost instantaneously . In Vader ’s brusque , vehement style , the Dark Lord single singlehandedly storms Cylo ’s flagship , butchers the Doctor ’s United States Army of clones ( delivering the issue ’s second - best put - down ) , and eliminates the threat once and for all .
The remainder of the issue serve as a wrap - up , Vader triumphant and on a victory lap . Vader ’s rewarded by the Emperor for his treachery and sneaking behind Imperial backs — and for defying his master , the true sign of a good Sith — with his status re - instated and bid of the Executor .
In a tragic moment , Vader then has to deal with the other dandy character of this serial publication , Doctor Aphra . After she attempted to sell him out to the Emperor , lover knew it could only end poorly for her , and it does … kind of . Vader coldly thresh his partner - in - offense out an airlock , as she beg him to belt down her quickly with his lightsaber , a ugly end for one of thebest new character of Disney ’s Star Wars canon , until it ’s uncover to be far from Aphra ’s true terminal — picked up before she could pop off by her trusty killer droids Triple-0 and BT , she escape the serial publication to appear for new adventures :

But as Vader ’s journey come to and stop — for now — its terminal recall recalls the emotional turmoil that has drive Vader throughout the series : his discovery that he has a son , who could rule the galaxy alongside him . The last pages are full of emotion , as Vader remain firm alone in triumph aboard the Executor ’s span , reaching out in the Force to his child before utter one final , ominous line :
Darth Vader might be over , but the Dark Lord ’s journeying in the galax far , far away is far from it . Let ’s hope Marvel can keep this excellent enactment of one of Star Wars ’ finest going well beyond this serial ’ conclusion .
