Long distance has been tough on Las Vegas Aces starKelsey Plumand her husbandDarren Wallerever since he was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Giants in March, but it worked out perfectly Wednesday night as he got to watch Plum win her second WNBA championship in New York City.

The Acesdefeated the New York Liberty 70-69 at Barclay’s Centerin Brooklyn to take home back-to-back championships, which allowed Waller, 31, to cheer on his wife’s team without missing any of his NFL obligations.

Plum, 29, posted seven points, five assists and eight rebounds in the Aces' win as Waller sat courtside.

After the final buzzer, Plum ran over to Waller to celebrate, and the lovebirds exchanged a kiss as cameras caught the sweet moment.

Last month, Waller spoke to PEOPLE about how the couple is navigating their new long distance relationship.

Waller explained, “It’s not ideal to have the person that you love the most not with you on a daily basis, but we make it work.”

The NFL star said he and Plum “encourage each other” in their respective careers as well as in personal challenges and wellness goals. The couple has “gotten a lot better at just being there for each other,” as Waller adjusts to life in New York, he said.

The athletic couple has “been handling it the best we can” and look forward to Plum’s WNBA season concluding so she can spend time with him while the NFL season plays out.

The Giants star told PEOPLE, “She’ll be out here in Jersey, and we’ll be back to living together, and it’ll be all good.”

The now-married couple were Vegas fan-favorites before Waller’s trade, and Plum talked to PEOPLE about how much love she and the Aces have for the city.

“The Vegas vibe has been unbelievable,” Plum says. “I didn’t realize the impact that we would have on this community. They just appreciate winning. We’re the first professional franchise to bring a championship to Las Vegas and the people really are just hyped and proud.”
