Real Madrid, where Ronaldo spent nearly a decade from 2009 to 2018, issued astatementsharing their support during this difficult time, saying that the Spanish club “joins the pain of the whole family and wants to show them all our love and affection.”

Brazilian soccer legendPeléalso sent sympathies to Ronaldo, commenting on Instagram: “My friend, I send you my prayers and my feelings at this very difficult time. May God comfort your hearts and enlighten every step of the way.”

In aseparate statement, Manchester United confirmed that Ronaldo would not be playing in the upcoming game against Liverpool and stressed the player’s request for privacy.

“Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time,” the club said. “As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family’s request for privacy.”

Ronaldo, who is also dad to 4-year-old twinsEva Maria and Mateo, 4-year-old daughterAlana Martina, and 11-year-old sonCristiano Jr, announced on Oct. 28 via Instagram that he and Rodríguezwere expecting twins.
