There are hundreds of billions of galaxy in the universe , each containing 1000000000 of star and many gazillion of planets . You ’d think , therefore , that life might be quite coarse .
We still have n’t found any other life , however , head Italian astrophysicist Enrico Fermi to ponder in 1950 where all the aliens were . This became roll in the hay as theFermi Paradox , and it still does n’t have a solution .
Now researchers from the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University have seek to answer this . Using the famousDrake Equation , which attempts to betoken the possibility of intelligent civilization in the universe , they fare up with a portion opportunity of other intelligent life existing . Their results are release in a paper onarXiv .
The intelligence ? Uh , it ’s not great . They say there ’s between a 39 percent and 85 percent hazard that we ’re alone in the observable universe .
“ [ W]e find a substantial chance that we are alone in our galaxy , and perhaps even in our evident universe of discourse , ” the research worker moderate by Anders Sandberg wrote . “ ’ Where are they ? ’ – probably exceedingly far off , and quite possibly beyond the cosmological horizon and forever unreachable . ”
They came to this finish by reducing uncertainties in the search for sprightliness as much as possible . This include “ factoring in models of plausible chemical substance and genetic mechanism , ” notedCosmos Magazine . They look at current scientific uncertainties that bring out unlike value for factors in the Drake Equation , and took a look at the result .
“ The problem , according to the researchers , is that plugging numbers into the Drake equation as a ‘ good guess ’ implies certainty and results in misleading estimates , ” saidMotherboard . “ Probability distributions , on the other hand , allows for uncertainty to be captured in the equation . ”
That lead to the suggestion that there is a 53 to 99.6 percent probability we are alone in our galaxy , along with the said betting odds of being alone in the universe .
Do n’t give up all hope just yet though , as the researcher say their conclusion “ does not mean that we are alone ( in our beetleweed or observable creation ) , just that this is very scientifically plausible and should not storm us . ”
So , if we never find intelligent exotic life sentence , do n’t be too worried . The odds were never in our favour .
